Here, at long last, is Bruckner’s glorious second symphony, performed here by the Chicago Symphony and famed Brucknerian Sir Georg Solti.

A friend of mine introduced me to Bruckner’s music in 1979. It was like someone opened the top of my head and let my brain expand. The music is grand and expansive. The 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, and 9th will bowl you over.

Bruckner is brilliant. I will admit that listening to Bruckner requires a good deal of patience, as his adagios can get a little heavy, but the listener is always rewarded in the end. I recommend that you listen to the Staatskapelle Dresden Bruckner cycle, a steady interpretation.
